Next, locate the outside diameter and wall thickness of the stainless steel tubing. For example, for ¼ in. stainless steel tubing in the inch table:

• Tubing with 0.028 in. wall thickness has a maximum allowable working pressure of approximately 4,000 psig.

• Tubing with 0.035 in. wall thickness can withstand up to approximately 5,100 psig.

Selecting the correct tubing size and wall thickness ensures that the stainless steel tubing can safely handle the operating pressure in the fluid system.

What happens if the pressure exceeds the rating?

• If the tubing and fittings are properly installed, the tubing may burst to release pressure.
